Celebrate a landmark in Canadian railway history with the 2000 $20 The Toronto Coin, the inaugural release in the Royal Canadian Mint’s Transportation on Land, Sea and Rail series. Struck in 92.5% sterling silver with a proof finish, this coin features a captivating holographic image of the “Toronto”—the first steam locomotive built in Canada and likely the first in the British Empire outside of Great Britain. With a limited mintage of 44,367, this coin is a prized addition for collectors of Canadian history and railway memorabilia. Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded oval metal clamshell case, accompanied by a serialized certificate of authenticity.
Reverse: Features a dynamic holographic image of the “Toronto” steam locomotive, capturing the essence of early Canadian railway innovation.
Obverse: Displays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pédery-Hunt.
