Description

The 2024 1 Cent Lost Designs From the Archives – 2 oz .9999 Silver coin is an exclusive Royal Canadian Mint Masters Club release that brings a forgotten piece of Canada’s numismatic history to life. This collector issue revives an unused 1936 cent design by renowned Canadian sculptor Emanuel Hahn, best known for the iconic Voyageur dollar.

In preparation for the 1937 modernization of Canada’s circulation coins, Hahn submitted multiple design concepts—one of which featured the trillium, Canada’s floral emblem. Though never selected for circulation, the original pencil sketch was preserved in the National Currency Collection of the Bank of Canada. Nearly nine decades later, that design has been faithfully recreated in 2 ounces of 99.99% pure silver, forming the first coin in the “Lost Designs From the Archives” series.

Struck with a luminous proof finish and limited to 2,500 coins worldwide, this release offers collectors a rare opportunity to own a “what-might-have-been” chapter of Canadian coinage history.

Design Highlights

  • Historic date “1936” included to reflect the design’s origin

Obverse (Front):

  • Effigy of King George V, as seen on Canadian coins of 1936
