Description

A defining moment in Canadian sports history, preserved in silver. This 1997 Double Dollar 8-Coin Prestige Set commemorates the 25th anniversary of the legendary 1972 Canada–USSR Summit Series, a turning point that forever changed international hockey and Canadian identity.

Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this vintage prestige set reflects an important transition in Canadian coinage. For the first time, the annual Double Dollar set expanded to eight coins, marking the introduction of the new $2 coin, which features selective 24-karat gold plating. Together, the coins tell a story of national pride, innovation, and athletic legacy.

The centerpiece of the set is the Silver Dollar, designed by Canadian artist Walter Burden, capturing a pivotal hockey moment from the historic 1972 series. Other circulating denominations complete the set, each struck in proof finish and beautifully displayed.

All eight coins are encapsulated and visible from both sides, housed in an elegant black leather book-style case lined with rich red satin. A certificate of authenticity accompanies the set. Light toning may be present on the Silver Dollar, a natural characteristic of original proof silver that enhances its authenticity and vintage appeal.
