Description
The Dinosaur Collection: Dromaeosaurus coin is a 2010 release from the Royal Canadian Mint’s popular Dinosaur Collection, which celebrates Canada’s extraordinary fossil heritage and prehistoric past. This $4 fine silver coin highlights Dromaeosaurus, a swift and intelligent raptor that roamed what is now Alberta during the Late Cretaceous period.
Struck in 99.99% pure silver, the coin features a distinctive selective aging effect that gives the fossilized skeleton the appearance of being embedded in ancient stone. Each coin is individually treated, ensuring that no two coins are exactly alike. The design was created in close collaboration with paleontologists from the Royal Tyrrell Museum, guaranteeing scientific accuracy and authenticity.
With a limited mintage of 20,000 coins worldwide, this issue blends modern numismatic artistry with natural history and makes an appealing addition for collectors of Canadian silver, dinosaur themes, and museum-inspired designs. About Dromaeosaurus
Dromaeosaurus—meaning “running lizard”—was a small but formidable raptor species that lived approximately 74 to 76 million years ago. Measuring about 2.5 metres (8.25 feet) in length and weighing under 20 kilograms (44 pounds), it was a fast-moving predator equipped with sharp, recurved teeth and clawed forelimbs designed for hunting.
