Description
The 2015 Brilliant Fine Silver Dollar commemorates the 50th anniversary of the National Flag of Canada, one of the most recognizable and unifying symbols of the nation. Since its first raising on February 15, 1965, the red-and-white maple leaf flag has come to represent Canadian identity, unity, freedom, and pride—both at home and around the world.
Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this annual Silver Dollar is struck in 99.99% pure silver and features a brilliant uncirculated finish that enhances the depth and clarity of the engraved design. With a low mintage of just 15,000 coins worldwide, this special anniversary issue stands out as one of the lowest-mintage Brilliant Silver Dollars in the modern series.
Containing 23.17 grams (approximately ¾ oz) of fine silver, this coin is both a meaningful commemorative and a premium collectible. As a pure silver issue from the Royal Canadian Mint, it is GST/HST exempt.

Design
The reverse design by Canadian artist John Mantha brings together powerful symbolic elements that reflect how the Canadian flag is viewed both domestically and internationally. Dominating the scene, the iconic red-and-white flag billows at full mast atop a flagpole, proudly displaying the maple leaf.
Below, a backpacker gazes toward the horizon across a landscape that represents Canada’s geographic diversity. A small Canadian flag attached to the traveler’s pack symbolizes both national pride and the global recognition of the maple leaf. Encircling the design is a ring of 50 maple leaves, marking the flag’s 50th anniversary. The inscriptions include CANADA, DOLLAR, and the commemorative dates 1965–2015.
The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt, along with the denomination and year of issue.
Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint maroon clamshell, housed within a black beauty box. A serialized certificate of authenticity is included.
