Design
Designed by Western Ojibwa artist Cyril Assiniboine, the reverse depicts three hunters answering the elders’ call to stop the great bear before it brings starvation to the people. A hunter in traditional Saulteaux dress dominates the foreground, complete with ceremonial face paint and a shield adorned with a symbolic bear claw motif. In the background, the Big Dipper glows brilliantly in the dark, representing the eternal chase that carried the hunters and the bear into the sky. The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, along with the denomination and year.
Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint maroon clamshell with a graphic beauty box. The outer packaging also glows in the dark and is designed to align with the other coins in the series to form the complete Big Dipper constellation.
