Description

Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation, this 2017 Proof Silver Dollar is one of the most significant modern commemoratives produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. Struck in fine silver, the coin presents a powerful allegorical portrayal of Canada—honouring the nation’s past while confidently looking toward the future.

The reverse features a modern yet timeless personification of Canada, designed by Canadian artist Rebecca Yanovskaya. Strong, youthful, and unarmed, Canada stands as a symbol of peace, resilience, and unity. Every engraved element tells part of the national story, from the British North America Act representing Confederation, to the feather and fur cloak honouring First Nations heritage, to the surrounding oceans and Mount Logan symbolizing Canada’s vast geography and enduring strength.

Struck in 99.99% pure silver with a meticulous proof finish, this coin contains approximately three-quarters of a troy ounce of silver and carries a limited mintage of just 30,000 coins worldwide. As a legal-tender silver issue from the Royal Canadian Mint, it is GST/HST exempt.

Thirteen rays of light represent the provinces and territories, while waves symbolize the surrounding oceans. Mount Logan rises in the background, reinforcing the theme of resilience and aspiration.

The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, consistent with Canadian coinage of the period.
