Design
The reverse design faithfully replicates the Sacrifice Medal, including the cloaked statue “Canada” from the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. The downcast figure symbolizes national sorrow and mourning, while the ribbon’s black central stripe represents grief, red stripes the blood shed, and white stripes hope for peace. The partial view of the medal’s suspension bar is ornamented with the Royal Crown, reflecting Canada’s Head of State. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
