Design

The reverse showcases a detailed reproduction of the Star of Military Valour, originally designed by Bruce W. Beatty. The four-pointed star is adorned with sculpted maple leaves at each angle, while a central maple leaf rests within a laurel wreath. Translucent red, silver, and gold finishes highlight the engraving to match the real decoration’s colours. The design also includes the commemorative dates “1993” and “2018” and the inscription “CANADA.”

The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

The Star of Military Valour

Established on February 2, 1993, the Star of Military Valour is Canada’s second-highest honour for bravery in combat, awarded for distinguished and valiant service in the presence of the enemy. It was introduced alongside the Canadian Victoria Cross and Medal of Military Valour as part of Canada’s modern honours system, recognizing extraordinary courage demonstrated by members of the Canadian Armed Forces and allied personnel.
