Design
The reverse, designed by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota, captures the intensity and heroism of the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel. A young Newfoundland soldier advances through No Man’s Land, contending with barbed wire and enemy fire. In the background, the gnarled “Danger Tree” marks the site where the regiment faced the fiercest fire. A banner along the lower portion of the coin showcases the winged figure of “Victory” in selective gold plating, inspired by the Victory Medal awarded to Allied forces. The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, along with the denomination and year of issue. Engravings include “CANADA,” “1916,” “2016,” and “The Battle of Beaumont-Hamel / La Bataille de Beaumont-Hamel.”
