Design

The reverse design by Canadian artist Jamie Desrochers captures the celebratory spirit of Canada in 2017 through a powerful and modern composition. A stylized map of Canada, viewed from a sweeping perspective, creates a sense of motion and dimensionality across the nation.

At the centre, a bold “150” dominates the design, symbolizing the scale and importance of the Confederation anniversary. Below it appear the inscriptions CANADA, DOLLAR, and the commemorative dates 1867–2017, rendered in Heritage Canada’s official CANADA 150 font alongside the CANADA 150 logo.

Rising behind the map is Canada’s national flag, delicately rendered in laser frosting to give it an ethereal appearance—symbolizing the shared pride and patriotism felt across the country during this milestone year.

The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt, along with the denomination and year of issue.
